The Cooper River Site located near Charleston, SC has an exciting opportunity for a Chemical Engineering Consultant/Manufacturing Representative for growth projects within the Transportation and Advanced Polymers business within the Specialty Products Division of DowDupont.
The successful candidate is responsible for representing manufacturing in the scale-up and engineering of processes selected to be constructed, commissioned and operated at the site.
Fully understands the chemistry, process equipment and automation technology associated with the project.
Represents and works with plant operations team to establish efficient operations to meet business and plant goals in the areas of Environment, Health & Safety, quality, productivity, energy intensity, and reliability.
Serves as the Manufacturing Representative in project reviews at all stages of the project to ensure manufacturing feasibility and operability meeting above objectives.
Networks with other engineers on site and within the business to leverage knowledge of plant operations
Ensures Most Effective Technology (MET) is understood and implemented as applicable to the project.
Leads and participates in commissioning and start-up of project related processes and ancillary equipment.
Ensures Operating Discipline / Management Systems are in place prior to start-up.
Implements standardized best practices to optimize operations.
Works with process automation resources to ensure process control is strategies are implemented to effectively monitor and control the process.
Supports plant roles in procedure usage, creation, reviews, updates and approvals when assigned.
As required communicate technical information and issues to plant personnel, centers of excellence and other expertise centers.
Participates in a Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) review of projects.
Assists with implementation of Process Safety Management safety principles.
Follows process safety requirements in Change of Design, Management of Changes related to improvement projects.
Ensures effective new raw material and/or new product introduction in accordance with new product introduction process.
Perform periodic tasks required to maintain compliance with the plant’s license to operate and certification to ISO-14001
Provide training in responsible area as process Subject Matter Expert (SME) to technical staff and operations as needed.
The successful candidate will be required to travel to master technology at remote locations as needed and may be required to manage start-up/operational issues on off-hours.
- BS in Chemical Engineering with 5+ years previous industrial manufacturing experience. Experience in continuous and batch chemical processes is preferred.
Experience in developing and executing improvement projects in a 24/7 manufacturing operation
Proven ability to drive timely and highly effective results while positively influencing others
Strong interpersonal skills to both network and to be an effective team member within the High Performance Work System (HPWS) environment
Solid demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to handle multiple tasks and a high-volume workload with shifting and competing priorities
Strong teamwork and organization skills
Understanding and demonstrated use of Six Sigma methodology
Experience with Process Safety Management
Good collaboration skills: Must work with multiple groups to achieve business objectives and personnel success with diplomacy and tact.
Courageous Leadership: Must be able to chart paths that are not routine and gain support to achieve success though influence.
Other desired experience:
Previous experience with specialty batch processes, extruders, and good manufacturing practices for medical products
Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certified
Lean manufacturing experience
