DuPont of Circleville has openings for a General Operator. The Circleville site is located approximately 30 miles south of Columbus, OH and manufactures Kapton® film, Tedlar® film, Teflon® film, Vespel® resin and housing an R&D facility.

DuPont’s Circleville, Ohio, site has an exciting opportunity for a General Operator. The General Operator monitors and operates equipment and facilities, including field equipment, insuring quality and conformance with standard operating procedures. The General Operator also maintains safety standards at all times and initiates and follows emergency procedures when necessary. The General Operator rotates through various roles within the area, including, in some cases, a control room rotation, and may be expected to train and serve on the site Emergency Response Team, including Fire Fighting, HazMat, Confined Space Rescue, and Medical First Response.

This position is to be performed according to established company procedures, policies, legal regulations, and ISO requirements. Every day performance of duties in this position must be done in an ethical manner with safety as the primary responsibility.

This position will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Move control settings to make necessary adjustments on equipment units affecting speeds of chemical reactions, quality, or yields.

  • Monitor recording instruments, flow meters, panel lights, or other indicators and listen for warning signals, to verify conformity of process conditions.

  • Control or operate chemical processes or systems of machines, using computer systems, panel boards, control boards, or semi-automatic equipment.

  • Record operating data, such as process conditions, test results, or instrument readings.

  • Draw samples of products and conduct quality control tests to monitor processing and to ensure that standards are met.

  • Regulate or shut down equipment during emergency situations, as directed by supervisory personnel.

  • Start pumps to wash and rinse reactor vessels, to exhaust gases or vapors, to regulate the flow of oil, steam, air, or perfume to towers, or to add products to converter or blending vessels.

  • Interpret chemical reactions and review laboratory test reports for process adjustments.

  • Patrol work areas to ensure that solutions in tanks or troughs are not in danger of overflowing.

  • Turn valves to regulate flow of products or byproducts through agitator tanks, storage drums, or neutralizer tanks.

  • Calculate material requirements or yields according to formulas.

  • Gauge tank levels, using calibrated rods.

  • Repair or replace damaged equipment.

Qualifications

In order to be qualified for this role, the following is required:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent

  • Willing and able to work a rotating shift, including nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on short notice call in as needed by the business

  • Willing and able to: lift 10lbs frequently, 25lbs regularly, 55lbs occasionally; climb stairs, ladders, and columns; stand, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl, utilize visual acuity for close work, reach overhead, hear and respond to alarms; and work in various weather conditions

  • Willing and able to wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) such as steel toes, hardhat, Nomex, protective eyewear, face shields, arc protective clothing, and SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus)

  • Basic computer skills including proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)

  • Serving on the Circleville site emergency response team is a key requirement of an operator position with appropriate training and equipment, I am willing and able to serve in that capacity (firefighting, hazmat, confined space rescue, and medical first response).

The following skill-sets are preferred by the site:

  • Experience working in a manufacturing or similar environment, or 3 years of related experience, or an Associate's degree in a related field, or a manufacturing certification

  • Experience working in 5S teams, lean manufacturing teams, or other quality/process improvement programs

  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical systems, chemical reactions, or manufacturing process
