The Kapton® film manufacturing business is seeking a Production / Process Engineer at the site in Circleville, Ohio. The Circleville site is one of three primary manufacturing locations that produces Kapton® polyimide film. Kapton® is part of the Interconnect Solutions business unit, which is part of the Electronics and Imaging platform, within DuPont. Electronics and Imaging is comprised of five high growth global businesses supplying a broad array of materials to multiple consumer electronics and industrial sectors. The Kapton® facilities consist of polymer manufacturing, film casting, and numerous converting operations such as coating, heat treatment, and extensive slitting. The Circleville site also manufactures Tedlar® film, Teflon® film and Vespel® resin.

The role provides technical expertise and strategic technical direction for the Kapton® casting manufacturing area. The Production / Process Engineer is recognized as a leader and expert in that technology and leads teams to upgrade processes and products that may range from incremental improvements to major technology changes. A primary focus is to develop improved process instrumentation and control strategies, process safety, yield, quality, plant capacity and overall equipment effectiveness performance. This role will mentor other technical personnel and may serve in a Process Safety Management critical role.

Responsibilities:

  • Small team leader (with Technologists, Reliability Engineers and Continuous Improvement Engineers) to prioritize, coordinate and execute efforts for the assets of responsibility

  • Provides technical oversight of ongoing production

  • Leads troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex issues

  • Key role in the development and tactical execution of the 5-year Technology Plan

  • Accountable for oversight of the reliability programs for the assigned assets

  • Enables and assists in the training of operators, mechanics and other technical team members to convey the “why” of the fundamentals

  • Drives the development and documentation for product-by-process manufacturing

  • Designs process improvements (yield, quality, uptime, capacity release)

  • Implements, including commissioning and qualification, programs and/or process improvements

  • Participates in the PACE/Improvement Process for development prior to scale-up of new products

  • Responsible to ensure adequate basic data is created for CapEx projects and provides resourcing support (e.g. develops plans and/or covers Commissioning, Decommissioning, Start-Up and Shut Down activities)

  • May lead a PSM Technology Elements (Process Technology, PHA, Management of Change-Technology)

  • Networks and leverages the broader organization (Engineering Sciences, R&D, Marketing, etc.)

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Technical Degree (BS, MS, or PhD) in Engineering, preferably Chemical or Mechanical

  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification (can be obtained in role)

  • A minimum of 1-3 years industrial plant experience with exposure to PSM (Process Safety Management) systems required. 3-5+ years preferred. Co-Op/Internship experience will be considered.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with industrial chemical, polymer and/or film manufacturing processes

  • Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge to diagnose, troubleshoot, solve or help others solve equipment and/or process issues.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of key PSM Technology elements such as Process Hazards Analysis, Process Technology, Management of Change -Technology, RAGAGEP among others

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple, complex, time-sensitive projects

  • Demonstrated skill in leadership, peer development and achieving results through influence and negotiation

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; must work well in self-managed and team environments

  • Ability to access and network with appropriate site and corporate teams to gain or share knowledge
