AREA MECHANIC

DuPont Chambers Works is seeking an Area Mechanic.

This position is responsible for performing, with minimal supervision, a variety of maintenance assignments to keep a 24/7 chemical manufacturing process running in a safe and efficient manner.

Candidate will provide troubleshooting and repair skills on mechanical equipment for the area. Perform preventative maintenance, repair, installation of rotating equipment - pumps, gear boxes, motors, etc. Remove, bend, and replace tubing and piping. Lubricate, clean and repair machinery, equipment, and tools. General computer skills to access documents, email, and maintenance procedures. A successful candidate is a highly self-motivated individual who can work both independently, and within teams, with minimal guidance.

This position operates as a Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM role. Overtime hours are offered as deemed necessary by Management and business demand, and may include extended shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, sometimes with minimal notice.

This is a union represented role located at the DuPont Chambers Works Plant in Deepwater, NJ and will require less than 5% travel.

Pay is $39.41 per hour base rate with an expected progression to full pay rate dependent on achieving qualification. This role is eligible for additional pay allowances per the site union contract including: shift differential pay, call-in allowance, hold-over allowance, over-time rate, and holiday-time rate.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Area Mechanic role responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Safely maintain all plant equipment, such as valves, pumps, agitators, fans, conveyors, compressors, mechanical seals, centrifuges, tubing, pipework, etc. per oral and written instructions.

  • Assist in the implementation and improvement of effective preventive maintenance programs for all equipment, performing scheduled maintenance on facilities and production equipment as required.

  • Interpret single line diagrams, piping schematics, and mechanical drawings.

  • Support day to day operations with maintenance support on production equipment.

  • Interact with Production Technicians to understand issues and concerns with production and address them appropriately.

  • Troubleshoot and dismantle defective machines/equipment and install new or repaired equipment or parts.

  • Clean and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.

  • Safely perform work outdoors during all types of weather conditions.

  • Model appropriate behavior for: Environment, Health & Safety, Project Safety Management, Ethics and Core Values.

  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.

  • Ability to take initiative, self-start work, set priorities, learn quickly and willingness to expand knowledge.

  • Ability to work flexible schedules including an on-call schedule, evenings, and weekends as needed.

  • Must have demonstrated human relations ability to show teamwork and resolving problems together; ability to develop effective working relationships with outside vendors, contractors, and customers, as well as internal personnel.

  • Enter information in SAP to manage and complete Maintenance Work Orders.

  • Ensure a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in all assigned areas.

  • Training new employees on use of tools and equipment.

  • Participate in writing Work Instructions for routine tasks.

  • Use computer programs: SAP, MS Word, DuPont E-Mail, online training platforms.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.

  • Effectively read, write, comprehend, and speak English.

  • 4 years of industrial maintenance experience and/or millwright, pipefitter, boilermaker experience.

  • Follow outlined policies and work procedures.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Troubleshooting skills; ability to think and act quickly and in a safe manner.

  • Sit/stand/walk up to 8 or 12 hours per day, walk up and down stairs, kneel, crouch, crawl, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

  • Natural or corrected vision equal to the standards of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission.

  • A high degree of work schedule flexibility.

Preferred

  • Associate degree, Journeyman’s License, NCCER certification.

  • Chemical plant, refinery, or petrochemical experience.

  • Additional skills in the areas of: HVAC, Machining, Pump rebuilds (centrifugal, positive displacement, diaphragm, peristaltic), compressors, mechanical seals, centrifuges, working with stainless steel tubing.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Responsible for working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to elements such as odor, noise, dust, heat, cold, and chemicals. Must adhere to strict safety and environmental guidelines including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when appropriate. For example: gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes, coveralls, face shield, goggles, aprons, respirators.

Must pass an online assessment, drug screen, background check, and physical.
