BioProcess Development Scientist (Job Number: 192286W-01)

Our probiotics and cultures business is looking for scientists who will help make practical leaps in technology through meaningful research and bring healthy products to market. Team success looks like commercializing strains with new health benefits and changing the market in dairy by generating more productive strains.

Responsibilities include:

  • Culturing new probiotics and dairy strains;

  • Developing new media and booster packages to optimize industrial production;

  • Scaling up products/processes from laboratory to commercial scale:

  • increasing fermentation yield;

  • increasing cell density;

  • increase cell robustness and stability of cell cultures.

In alignment with these responsibilities, it would be helpful for the Scientist to be familiar with:

  • Latest enumeration methods including digital PCR & Flow cytometry;

  • Latest molecular typing methods & Next Generation Sequencing techniques;

  • Industrial fermentation practices/trends and current with trending literature;

  • Downstream processing including freeze drying, liquid/solid separation techniques and blending.



  • Degree in relevant field of study: Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Food Science, Biochemical engineering, Chemical engineering

  • PhD preferred

  • Masters + 3 years of experience preferred

  • Bachelors + 5 years of experience preferred

Technical Skill set

  • Relevant experiences would include fermentation, lyophilization, cGPM operations, statistical process optimization.

  • Knowledge of cell physiology & metabolic pathways;

  • Preferred statistical knowledge of bio-informatics for knowledge gathering on lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria;

  • HPLC and GC-MS analytical techniques;

  • Basic statistical techniques to evaluate variables on performance criteria;

  • Patent search and interpretation;

  • Technical report writing to communicate findings in an impactful manner.

Collaborative Skill set

  • Operate in Globally diverse team environment with full adherence to the organizations core values including Respect for people, Ethical behavior, Environmental stewardship and Safety.

  • Work together with technicians, assistant scientists and scientists in developing new products, optimizing current products, and scaling up products/processes from laboratory to commercial scale.

  • Listening and facilitating skills to work within a diverse, multinational work environment
