Senior Application Scientist, Cheese (Job Number: 196770W-02)
NATURE OF WORK/SCOPE OF POSITION
Responsible for complex technical projects from experimental design to completion. Includes testing, analytical procedures, equipment setup and preparation of standards and product materials under minimal supervision. Employees in positions at this level independently apply intensive and diversified knowledge of scientific research in broad areas of assignments and related fields. They also require a moderate level of business acumen. They may supervise/coordinate staff as appropriate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to the following:
Develop work-plans to manage work for new product launches that may have a considerable influence on scientific knowledge or technological developments.
Develop and evaluate plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out individually or by others.
Provide technical service, both in-house and on-site to cheese customers with a focus on growing the cheese culture business.
Review scientific literature, abstracts, patents and applicable method papers as appropriate.
Keep up-to-date on trends, new technical developments and competitor’s activities by monitoring applications for processing systems and ingredients in applicable areas.
Deliver and create value-added solutions to customers. Build strong technical credibility with customers.
Provide technical services to Customers, Sales and Divisions as needed (plant trials, troubleshooting, and training).
Implement and adhere to DuPont core values and safety initiatives. Report accidents promptly to Management.
May develop or assist with development of new product and application literature, including Technical Memorandums, Technical Notes, Technical Papers, invention disclosures and patents.
Maintain appropriate documentation for experiments, GMPs, ISO, FSMA, Bioterrorism and others as required. Maintain an understanding of DuPont’s quality and environmental policies and procedures.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
To successfully perform the requirements of this position, the incumbent must possess a minimum four year Biological, Chemical or Food Science or related degree and experience typically gained through 10-20 years in the food industry. The incumbent must have the ability to supervise, mentor and train junior scientists. Strong communication (verbal and written), organizational and interpersonal skills are necessary.
This position operates in a laboratory/pilot plant environment and may require outside travel up to 50% of the time.
This position may require heavy lifting up to 50 lbs and working with hazardous materials.
