Sabine River Works Site: Manufacturing Technology Engineer (Mechanical Engineer – G Unit Autoclave / VAMAC® Extrusion)

The Sabine River Works site in Orange, TX has a need for a Manufacturing Technology Mechanical Engineer. The person in this position will work with a multi-discipline team to drive process improvement and provide engineering project support / leadership for the G Unit high-pressure autoclave at the Sabine River Works site, as well as occasional technical guidance at its secondary extrusion assets. As part of the Transportation and Advanced Polymers business within DuPont, the G-unit autoclave produces specialized high-value ethylene polymers for various critical demand applications in diverse markets such as automotive, construction, packaging, wire & cable, safety/protection, and athletic gear. Job Description:

Provide mechanical engineering support to the G-Unit autoclave, its processes and facilities, including materials receival, storage, and transport; polymerization and extrusion; materials packaging / transport; and waste management. More specifically:

  • Identify and drive improvement opportunities and technological advances for increased process safety, asset efficiency and/or capability, and improved product quality and/or yield.

  • Provide systems troubleshooting and investigative support as needed to Operations and Maintenance (i.e., root cause failure analysis or RCFA). Utilize analytical / mechanical integrity assessment tools and data to identify / drive improvements in asset reliability (i.e., increased uptime, reduced part/materials failure, etc.).

  • Provide technical support to secondary extrusion assets. Work jointly with technology and tollers to troubleshoot issues and drive process/product improvements, especially as related to safety, quality, and yield.

  • Provide technical support in the prioritization and leadership of identified improvement opportunities. Develop project scope and design; network with technology, operations, maintenance, vendors and contractors, and other critical project resources / stakeholders to successfully drive projects; monitor and manage project safety, cost, and time; document the delivered changes and validate improvement gains.

  • Engagement and advancement of the systems and processes supporting the product and assets technology and safety (i.e., documentation and procedures management; safety start-up reviews or PSSRs; Management of Change processes; auditing and Process Hazards Analyses or PHAs, etc.)

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

BS or MS, Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university

3 years minimum work experience in manufacturing / industrial facility

  • Polymers manufacturing experience considered a plus

  • Extrusion experience considered a plus
