Kevlar® Pulp/Solution Prep - Area Specialist (Job Number: 199040W-01)


Kevlar® Pulp/Solution Prep is looking for an Area Specialist for the Richmond, Virginia Spruance site. Kevlar® is a heat-resistant material that protects people and processes in a wide range of applications around the world. The Pulp process makes Kevlar® pulp that is used in automotive brake pads, gaskets, and automatic transmission papers. The solution prep process is a high hazard area that prepares a solution for the spinning process.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Coaches basic equipment care and simple maintenanceskills for Operators to resolve technical operate plant issues

  • Performs or assists Operators in troubleshooting,diagnosing equipment performance issues in order to perform Root Cause FailureAnalysis on production losses attributed to equipment failures. Enhances teamcoach’s skills and knowledge through coaching on process, equipment,engineering etc.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot operating equipment inconcert with Operators

  • Develops equipment trouble shooting guides asenablers for operations

  • Identify equipment performance deviations and applythe needed level of root cause analysis and corrective action

  • Conduct area inspections and audits as per the areareliability strategies

  • Perform preventive and routine operationalmaintenance as per the area reliability strategies

  • Works with the Operators to ensure equipmentrelated performance issues are documented

  • Works with Operators to develop model qualitymaintenance work requests as a result of equipment trouble shooting and problemidentification (when further maintenance activities are required)

  • Identifies areas for improvement and networks withtechnical resources who are resources in the individual’s area of expertise.

  • Creates, leads and assists improvement teams andperforms work with subject matter experts on issues relatively to their area ofexpertise (i.e. work with reliability engineer to resolve mechanicalreliability issues)

  • Participates as required in product stewardshipaudits, customer visits and provides support to address and resolve customerneeds.

  • Works with other team resources to identifypermanent plant process changes and standard updates for the SAP system


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Highschool Diploma or GED required

  • Minimum 10 years of manufacturing experience

  • Process Safety Management understanding

  • Demonstrated influential leadership abilities

  • Ability to work with a diverse population of employees

  • Strong computer skills including MS office

  • Work hour flexibility to be the first call for a 24/7 operation

Preferred Skills:

  • Bachelors or higher degree in engineering, operations management,or related discipline

  • Experience working in a High Hazard area

  • Experience with MOCs and PHAs

  • Experience in Kevlar®

  • Six Sigma Black or Green Belt Certification

  • Experience with SAP
