Nomex® Solvent Recovery is looking for an Area Specialist for the Richmond, Virginia Spruance site. Nomex® is a heat-resistant material that protects people and processes in a wide range of applications around the world. The Solvent Recovery area is a high hazard area that processes returns from the Nomex® processes to recover material for re-use.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Coaches basic equipment care and simple maintenance skills for Operators to resolve technical operate plant issues

  • Performs or assists Operators in troubleshooting, diagnosing equipment performance issues in order to perform Root Cause Failure Analysis on production losses attributed to equipment failures. Enhances team coach’s skills and knowledge through coaching on process, equipment, engineering etc.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot operating equipment in concert with Operators

  • Develops equipment trouble shooting guides as enablers for operations

  • Identify equipment performance deviations and apply the needed level of root cause analysis and corrective action

  • Conduct area inspections and audits as per the area reliability strategies

  • Perform preventive and routine operational maintenance as per the area reliability strategies

  • Works with the Operators to ensure equipment related performance issues are documented

  • Works with Operators to develop model quality maintenance work requests as a result of equipment trouble shooting and problem identification (when further maintenance activities are required)

  • Develops operators to work with offsite contract manufacturing and supply chain to manage product inventories

  • Coordination of maintenance and operations activities during scheduled outages

  • Identifies areas for improvement and networks with technical resources who are resources in the individual’s area of expertise.

  • Creates, leads and assists improvement teams and performs work with subject matter experts on issues relatively to their area of expertise (i.e. work with reliability engineer to resolve mechanical reliability issues)

  • Ensure overall compliance with air permits and air regulations related to the operation of the Solvent Recovery area.

  • Oversee the required Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) programs applicable under the Miscellaneous Organic NESHAP (MON) (40 CFR 63 Subpart UU) and Spruance RACT agreement (40 CFR 60 Subpart VV). This includes ensuring monitoring is conducted, leaks are repaired, component tagging is maintained and required records are kept.

  • Ensure that Solvent Recovery is operated in compliance with the process specific MON compliance parameters on and ongoing basis.

  • Ensure that the MON required Startup, Shutdown and Malfunction Plan (SSMP) is followed and applicable records are maintained.

  • Ensure records of maintenance planned and performed on the Quench Tank, which requires it to be taken out of service, are maintained and such maintenance is limited to no more than 360 hours/year.

  • Ensure calibrations are conducted and corresponding records are maintained for the Quench Tank flow and temperature monitoring systems.

  • Coordinate and document annual Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) required dike and curb inspections. Facilities to be inspected include Admix Building Dike, Pump Row Dike, Solvent Recovery Main Pad, Acid Pad Dike, Rail Car Sump, Chloroform Unload Dike, Chloroform Pump Dike, Chloroform Tank Dike and Tank Farm Dike.

  • Complete all ETQ Reliance Task Manager action items related to Title V compliance and dike inspections.

  • Coordinated response to environmental incidents to ensure minimum impact and timely regulatory notification if required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Highschool Diploma or GED required

  • Minimum 10 years of manufacturing experience

  • Process Safety Management understanding

  • Demonstrated influential leadership abilities

  • Ability to work with a diverse population of employees

  • Strong computer skills including MS office

  • Work hour flexibility to be the first call for a 24/7 operation

Preferred Skills:

  • Bachelors or higher degree in engineering, operations management, or related discipline highly preferred

  • Minimum 3-5 years of manufacturing experience with degree

  • Experience working in a High Hazard area

  • Experience with MOCs and PHAs

  • Experience in Nomex®

  • Six Sigma Black or Green Belt Certification

  • Experience with SAP
