Pulp and Paper Development Engineer, Second Life Materials (Job Number: 199927W-01)
The Paper and Pulp Development Engineer will be responsible for the development of products and processes for pulps, papers, and other paper-like materials; commercialization; and manufacturing support of such products. The successful candidate should have solid knowledge, understanding, and experience in basic papermaking processes, including refining and other stock preparation steps, forming, and calendaring plus the ability to engage both external and internal technical and commercial resources. The candidate will report to a Global Technology Manager.

Work closely with material scientists and otherteam members to identify compositions and other attributes of initial pulpand paper prototypes based on project objectives.
Identify right equipment for stock preparation,forming, and calendering based on desired paper composition and otherattributes and locate right pilot and/or manufacturing facilities fortesting and eventual commercialization.
Manage lab work for screening of pulp and paperprototypes and lead trials at pilot and manufacturing facilities.
Work closely with other team members to driveprojects throughproduct andprocess commercialization.
Serve as technical lead internally and consultfor external partners on any capital projects required for optimization ofexisting assets or specifying and purchasing of new equipment.
Lead the preparation of standard operatingprocedures and other documentation related to newly developed processes.
Support, when necessary, the teams responsiblefor product manufacturing.
Fundamental knowledge of pulp and paper scienceand processes, including typical characterization methods.
Ability to lead and contribute to newproduct/application development efforts at the lab scale with a view topilot and commercial scale manufacturability.
Ability to lead and conduct pilot andcommercial scale manufacturing trials with Operations, ContractManufacturers, Customers, and End Users.
Capability to communicate and manage projectsacross multi-functional teams (Operations, Technical, Supply Chain,Contract Manufacturing, etc).
Desire to explore with capability to quicklylearn a broad range of markets, product lines, and competitive dynamicsand apply paper science knowledge to a variety of applications.
Ability to translate voice of customer totechnical needs leading to innovative solutions.
Ability to deliver credible technical expertiseto internal and external stakeholders in support of manufacturing/productscale up, commercialization and launch, and business development efforts.
Strong interpersonal skills with ability toestablish new relationships quickly with external resources as well asinternal DuPont resources across sites & regions.
Excels at teamwork.
Ability to direct and manage atechnologist/technical assistant.
Strong entrepreneurial drive with a desire todeliver solutions with speed and agility.
The following are required:
B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. degree in engineering;
At least 5 years’ experience in pulp and paper process and product development;
Work experience in stock refining and paper forming;
Work experience in paper calendering is a plus;
Work experience with man-made fibrous materials is a plus;
Experience interfacing with customers, contractors, or other external partners preferred;
Experience working with regions outside NA is a plus
Based in Richmond, VA
Ability to travel 25% to 50% of the time
