We are seeking well-qualified scientists to serve as Research Investigators at several company locations within the United States. Candidates with a Ph.D. in Engineering/ Materials Science, or related disciplines, who are new college graduates or have up to five years of experience in their field, are encouraged to apply.

Job locations may include: Wilmington, DE and Richmond, VA.

Primary Responsibilities

Our Research Investigators define, lead, and execute technical programs focused on process technology based on a strong understanding of fundamental engineering principles, so that these processes can be manifested into assets for new products, improved manufacturing, and/or potentially entire technology platforms.

More specifically, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Defining, leading, and executing process research and development programs

  • Conducting lab and pilot plant work and/or directing the work of one or more R&D technicians

  • Participating in cross-functional teams, represented by various technical and non-technical disciplines

  • Working closely with individuals and teams focused on application developments

  • Partnering with scientists and other engineers to scale processes to pilot and commercial production

  • Managing intellectual property (IP); understanding relevant IP and competitive landscapes and actively developing new IP

  • Partnering with external consultants, vendors, and other entities to efficiently execute programs, as needed

  • Writing and communicating technical reports and presentations

  • Being an active member of the broader technology community within Safety & Construction and DuPont


  • Ph.D. in Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering , Materials Science or related discipline, from an accredited institution.

  • Experience at the post-doctoral level will be considered as will work experience up to five years beyond graduation/post-doc completion.

  • Diverse and substantial background knowledge in the areas of thermal management, high voltage for electrical motor, and mainly liquid insulation of the electric motor.

  • Solid understanding of heat transferring phenomena applied to electrical motor design and performance.
