Shift Team Coach (Job Number: 194433W-01)


Owns the execution of optimal operation on shift to improve safety, reliability and profitability. Leads direct reports in the pursuit of unit performance in line with unit goals.

Continually, coach, counsel, motivate and encourage direct reports to follow, embrace and adhere to the elements of Operational Excellence.

Below is a list of key responsibilities for the Shift Team Coach role:

  • Coaches operations to minimize distraction and stay focused on safety and production targets

  • Ensures shift teams are adequately staffed

  • Leads shift turnover meeting with shift team

  • Leads daily production meeting

  • Reviews incident investigation results on shift

  • Ensures execution of focused and timely work permitting

  • Provides shift instructions to operators

  • Ensures daily execution of action plans, routine duties and rounds

  • Acts as “off hour” operations maintenance gatekeeper on shift

  • Determines the status of assigned work on shift

  • Adjusts production and equipment operation based on conditions on shift

  • Assigns special projects to operators as per operator competency

  • Addresses personnel issues on shift – works with Unit Leader / Operations Capability Leader on disciplinary action

  • Proactively engage operators for their ideas, opinions and contributions

  • Ensures quality production

  • Creates shift summary report

Leads safety and environmental efforts

  • Serves as incident commander

  • Makes initial environmental release notifications

  • Prepares initial incident reports and supports incident investigation

  • Ensures operators are trained on MOC changes before implemented

Leads equipment care activities

  • Ensure weekly and daily maintenance schedules are executed

  • Ensures equipment preparation for maintenance as per the maintenance schedules

  • Manages plant processes when equipment is out of service

Coordination and communication with operations leadership

  • Provides plant status updates to leadership

  • Works closely with Operations Capability Leader to develop operator RREs and performance evaluations



  • Two-year degree or equivalent chemical manufacturing experience

  • 3 years’ experience in manufacturing operations

  • Good Leadership and communication skills to effectively make and explain decisions

  • Equipment and operating unit process knowledge and experience

  • Good Computer Skills

  • Ability to interface effectively with other functions and groups


  • 2 years’ experience in Nomex®, Kevlar® or Tyvek® manufacturing

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Six Sigma certification or Application of Lean Training
