Windfall Wheat Research Scientist - Breeder (Job Number: 201617W-01)


The scientist will be responsible for the development of a Soft Red Winter (SRW) varietal breeding program working with the team of wheat scientists and various colleagues in Plant Breeding and the larger Corteva Research organization. The breeding program will be focused on delivering genetic gain through varieties that meet the needs of our customers and our business. The scientist will be expected to help develop and use a full suite of available technologies to accelerate the rate of genetic gain and build a sustainable breeding program.

  • Establish a breeding andgenetics program that delivers superior SRW germplasm which providesperformance improvements consistent with product development objectives.

  • “Hands-on” utilization ofenabling breeding technologies in the implementation of the breedingprogram including precision phenotyping, molecular breeding, andinformation management.

  • Collaborate with internalscientific partners in the identification of key breeding targets,strategies and tools including the development and application ofmolecular markers and other technologies to enhance the breeding process.

  • Develop partnerships with thewheat breeding team and other colleagues in the development of strategiesto deliver varietal wheat with superior performance in a cost effectivemanner.

  • Facilitate information flowamong wheat team members and other parts of the organization as necessary.

  • Interact with colleaguesoutside Corteva as required with emphasis on key universities.

  • Works under limited administrative/strategicdirection.

  • Scientificleadership which ensures the collection of high quality phenotypic data.

  • Contributesto leadership aspects of the Research Center activities through the following

o Compliance with Core Values and business/regulatory requirements

o Clear communication with other scientists and staff as required for the success of all center activities


  • PhD in plant breeding or plantgenetics, with an emphasis in the areas of genetics and moleculargenetics.

  • An independent, highlymotivated, and self-directed scientist is required.

  • Comprehensive knowledge andapplied research experience in plant genetics or plant breeding.

  • Strong verbal and writtencommunication skills and a proven ability to work well in a teamenvironment.

  • Experience or familiarity withmolecular breeding methods.

  • Experience with field researchprocesses and phenotypic data analyses and utilization.

  • Strong organizational skills toplan and coordinate experiments across locations and abilities toeffectively share results across the organization are required.

  • Excellent personal interactionskills required for effectively developing strong internal and externalworking relationships with a diverse group of people.
